Trip Report May 23-30
As we sip champagne on the final night of our 7 night Bilikiki trip around the Solomons Islands we all reflected on what was our “favourite” dive of the trip. There were so many great dives it was impossible to narrow it down to just one! A huge highlight for me was being buzzed by a pod of dolphins at Kisan Island! For Tina it was looking up to see a sailfish flying past underwater. For others it was the schools of jacks and barracudas at Mary Island. Some divers loved the beautiful coral gardens that looked like some kind of fairy land. For some it was the Mavis Seaplane, a WW2 plane sitting on the bottom in 26m (85ft), the beautiful coral garden at the end of the dive is a great place to do an extended safety stop and see reeftop pipefish, twin spot gobies, urchin cling fish and pyjama cardinal fish. For others it was Leru Cut with the spectacular beams of light shinning down inside the cut as we swam out into the blue. Some divers just remembered all the cool stuff they had seen like the different types of sharks (including some cute baby sharks (doo-doo, doo-doo, doo-doo)), mobular rays, eagle rays, schools of batfish following us around, crocodile fish sitting camouflaged on the bottom or the endless amounts of small colourful tropical fish. It was an amazing trip!
A big thank you to the wonderful group from Midwest Aquatic, it was wonderful to meet you all and we hope to see you back in the Solomons again someday. A big thanks too to Tina, Oli and all the crew, you all do a fantastic job!
