June 2-11, 2024 Trip Report
On our last cruise we had the pleasure to welcome back 20 snorkel enthusiasts under the expert leadership of Wendy Simon and Bob Irwin.
We started our trip in the Florida Islands, where we explored the beautiful reefs from a different perspective. Simon's Nature Reserve turned out to be an all time favourite for everyone, with its incredible hard corals and an amazing amount and variety of fish life to match, including the ever popular cuttlefish and even a barramundi. A little excursion into the history of WW2 took us to the wrecks of the Bonegis, which have now become artificial reefs after more than 80 years under water.
In the Russells, we spent hours exploring the WW2 dumpsite of White Beach, now home to an amazing array of fish and critters alike. We saw everything from archer fish to octopus including many different species of anemone fish, signal gobies, nudibranchs and giant clams. Another highlight was definitely our day at Mary Island, where our snorkelers had a great time looking at massive schools of big-eye jacks, barracudas and some curious grey reef sharks, which even came in to have a closer look! Great fun!
We crossed to Marovo Lagoon in perfectly calm seas and spent yet another outstanding snorkel session at Kicha, where the rumbling underwater volcano Kavachi provided the perfect soundtrack to the schools of barracudas, jacks and batfish on this impressively beautiful reef - absolutely spectacular! We finished with some shark action at Mbulo Point and then to Wickham Island on a perfect day! What a beautiful way to finish this extraordinary trip!
Thank you Wendy, Bob and all the group for being so appreciative for everything in the water and for being such great company once again!
We're looking forward to the next trip with you all!
We'd also like to thank our incredible crew as always for their great work and support!
